Ham-Sud and Saint-Adrien

Route 257: Rebuilding the Link to Mont-Ham

The project

Place : Ham-Sud and Saint-Adrien
Work costs : $17,000,000
Completion period : 2018–2024

The reconstruction of Route 257 between Ham-Sud and Saint-Adrien was a major opportunity to resolve a long-standing accessibility issue to the mountain, which had been hindering the region’s tourism development. This key regional axis primarily serves local residents and inter-municipal emergency services, notably, the thousands of annual visitors to the Mont-Ham regional park.

From designing plans and specifications, to conducting ecological and environmental studies, and overseeing the work on-site, our professionals played an active role in the success of this project. The MTMD (Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable) and Les Sources RCM were also key partners in its realization.

The work consisted of a full reconstruction of the road structure, drainage system, and asphalt pavement over a total of 12 km (2.3 km between Saint-Adrien and the intersection of 10e Rang Est, and 8.2 km between 10e Rang Est and Chemin Gosford). This was an essential investment for the socio-economic sustainability of the local municipalities and regional development. The project also included the reconstruction of more than 70 culverts, some over 4,000 mm in diameter and longer than 25 m.

Avizo carried out major corrections to the road geometry to ensure user safety and improve access for the 60,000 annual visitors to the Mont-Ham recreational park, formerly the ancestral land of the Waban-Aki Nation. Environmental management was a key challenge throughout the work, with the need to protect trees, waterways, wildlife, and plant species located within the regional park.
