Celebrating engineering month!

Celebrating engineering month!

The month of March is significant at Avizo, as it is Engineering Month! This month aims to highlight the essential role of engineers, who shape today and tomorrow’s society through innovative and impactful projects for a sustainable future. This month also aims to showcase this profession, which is full of possibilities for the next generation of engineering professionals.

To celebrate engineering excellence, we asked Roxanne Madore, a chemical engineer, a few questions to learn more about her work and how she helps make Avizo shine.

What are your tasks and responsibilities as an engineer at Avizo?

“I am a project manager in the water quality measurement and monitoring team. I manage and participate in the execution of projects, from discussing the client’s needs to delivering the final report. The main projects I work on include validating flow measurement devices, characterizing wastewater, measuring sludge in aerated ponds at wastewater treatment plants, and conducting environmental audits.”

Tell us about a significant achievement or project you have worked on at Avizo.

Roxane Madore, ingénieure chez Avizo

“I have participated in environmental audits that provided an overview of the environmental management of large-scale companies (companies specialized in metallurgy, mining, and pulp and paper) as well as offering opportunities for improvement. The types of improvements can include the selection of wastewater samplers tailored to the client to improve accuracy and safety, helping to develop or identify weaknesses in measurement and sampling procedures in place, or even suggesting the addition of equipment. It’s rewarding to see that recommendations made are implemented.”

What motivates you daily in your work?

“It’s motivating to work in a field that has a positive impact on the environment and knowing that you can make a difference through your work. Additionally, at Avizo, colleagues are available and ready to help when needed. The team I work with includes many engineers, technicians, and other experienced professionals. Collaborating with them helps build additional confidence in one’s work.”

What challenges do you face in your work?

“At Avizo, the types of projects we work on are quite varied. Therefore, it’s an interesting challenge to fully understand the scope of each of our mandates and determine the procedure to follow in order to deliver a high-quality final product to our clients. In some cases, creativity is required!”

What does a typical workday look like for you?

“It’s rather difficult to define a typical day as an engineer at Avizo because each day is different. However, project management involves discussing with clients, managing various subcontractors associated with the project, and collaborating with technicians who will go on-site. After fieldwork, you need to compile and submit a report explaining the results to the client.”

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself as an engineer, what would it be?

Adaptability

At Avizo, we are fortunate to have exceptional talents like Roxanne, who contribute to shining a spotlight on the company! We take great pride in helping make the profession shine and in building a team of motivated and committed professionals!
