Phase II Environmental Site Assessment Project

Environmental protection is a growing concern for many communities, and the Municipality of Sainte-Eulalie is no exception. A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment was recently carried out at 119 rang des Cèdres, a site formerly occupied by a service station.

Phase II Site Assessment

A Phase II Site Assessment is a crucial step in understanding the environmental impact of a specific area. In the case of 119 rang des Cèdres, this assessment proved essential, as the site had previously been used as a service station. Activities associated with service stations, such as the storage of fuels and chemicals, can leave behind potentially harmful residues in the environment.

The Municipality of Sainte-Eulalie therefore undertook this assessment to determine the extent of contamination on the site. The work included the installation of monitoring wells, which are used to collect data on groundwater quality, the presence of potential contaminants and other key environmental factors. This step is essential for assessing potential risks to human health and the local ecosystem.

The soil and groundwater samples will then be analyzed by a laboratory accredited by the MELCCFP (Quebec’s Ministry of the Environment). A report will be issued to the client to determine whether a site rehabilitation plan is required to decontaminate the property.
