Stabilization of the banks of watercourses and bodies of water

The professionals at Avizo Consulting also specialize in stabilizing the banks of lakes, rivers and streams.

Depending on your needs and the characteristics of the land, plant engineering techniques, conventional riprap or mixed techniques may be used in your project.

Waterway engineering specialists

Marco Binet combines training in rural engineering and agronomy. He has nearly 30 years of experience in carrying out concepts and studies in water environment engineering. He has developed extensive expertise in the development of waterways, the stabilization of banks and the design of intervention plans at the watershed level. In addition to his in-depth knowledge of plant engineering, he is able to make agronomic recommendations related to various projects. The wide variety of mandates he has successfully completed in the fields of engineering, environment and agronomy make him an excellent manager of large-scale riparian development projects.

Progression of a typical waterfront development project

Depending on the scope of your project, the following steps may be necessary to complete it.

1. Preliminary study

The first meeting with the shoreline development specialists from Avizo Consulting will clarify the objectives of the project and the potential offered by the site.

The work usually begins with the characterization of the environments and a survey of the bank. Our experts will identify the high water mark, the slopes, the type of soil, the vegetation and the fauna in place.

2. Layout design

A shoreline development concept is developed based on the objectives of your project, the characteristics of the site, the budget and the regulatory constraints.

A preliminary version of the layout is presented to you and could be revised after a discussion with your project manager.

Our engineers carry out hydrological studies, size structures and produce plans and specifications for your project. They will recommend environmental mitigation measures and work methods adapted to the protection of the riparian and aquatic environment.

3. Application for permit and certificate of authorization

Once the engineering plans and specifications have been completed and approved by you. The requests for permits and authorizations will be sent to competent authorities such as:

  • MELCC
  • MFFP
  • DFO
  • Regional County Municipality (RCM)
  • City or municipality

4. Construction of the layout

After receiving the necessary permits and authorizations, the development work can begin.

Our team of construction specialists is used to working in wet and watery environments and is familiar with the constraints imposed by ministries and municipalities such as the drying up of waterways, the laying of soil protection mulch, floating barriers containment, sediment fences, etc.

Construction specialists in wetlands and bodies of water work under the supervision of our site supervisors who ensure compliance with environmental mitigation measures, work methods, applicable environmental standards and schedules.
