Contaminated Soil

In order to ascertain soil and water contamination, we perform all the necessary steps related to contaminants characterization.

The evaluations are carried out by our qualified staff, in accordance with the current norms.

Phase I : Site assessment

This study is conducted in accordance with norm CSA Z768-01 and includes :

  • Site historical review;
  • Information retrieval;
  • Site tour;
  • Targeted interview;
  • Technical report;
  • Location of risk areas.

Improved phase I : Site assessment

This further study consists of a specific characterization intended to validate at once the presence of contaminant without going through the first phase. Below are the steps that may be conducted:

  • Preliminary sampling of identified risk areas;
  • MSDEFCC certified laboratory analysis (soil);
  • Thoroughly detailed conclusion.

Phase II : Environmental characterization

The site characterization establishes whether areas identified during phase I are contaminated or not. To come about these findings, our team conducts the following analysis, in accordance with the stipulations of norm CSA Z769-00 and the MSDEFCC’s Guide d’échantillonnage à des fins d’analyse environnementale :

  • Soil sounding and/or boring;
  • Observation well installation;
  • Sampling;
  • MSDEFCC certified laboratory analysis;
  • Definition of hydraulic gradient and piezometric level;
  • Delimitation of the affected areas and defining of the amount of contaminant;
  • Restoration costs assessment;
  • Technical report.

Phase III : Decontamination and site treatment

If the presence of soil or water contaminants has been confirmed through the preliminary studies, our experts will supervise the decontamination works :

  • Restoration plan of the site;
  • Removal of contaminated soils;
  • Removal of tanks;
  • In-situ treatment;
  • Multi-sampling to ensure soil and ground water quality;
  • MSDEFCC certified laboratory analysis;
  • Attestation de décontamination.

Phase IV : Environmental monitoring

Our staff can achieve environmental follow-ups, whether they be demanded by the MSDEFCC or required as a precaution.

  • Measurement and sampling of ground water;
  • Surface water sampling;
  • Sediment sampling;
  • Dust sampling;
  • MSDEFCC certified laboratory analysis;
  • Progress report.
