InteliFlow Webinar: Anticipating Urban Flooding with AI

On November 4, 2026, Avizo and CANN Forecast presented InteliFlow in a webinar: an urban flood forecasting platform that combines weather data, local sensors and artificial intelligence to predict water levels and flows up to 72 hours in advance.

An early-warning tool, not a substitute for infrastructure

Hosted by Charles Duguay, President of Avizo, and Nicolas St-Gelais of CANN Forecast, the webinar began by setting the scope: InteliFlow helps municipalities prepare for intense rainfall events without replacing investments in their networks. The solution brings together two complementary areas of expertise: Avizo’s water monitoring and flow measurement, and CANN Forecast’s artificial intelligence applied to municipal infrastructure.

Key takeaways from the webinar

  • Forecasts up to 72 hours ahead for water levels and flows, based on weather models and rain gauges.
  • Quality-controlled local data: sensor measurements are validated before modelling, and the model improves with every event.
  • Configurable alerts based on each municipality’s thresholds and needs (24, 48 or 72 hours).
  • A shared dashboard designed for water management, public safety and communications teams.
  • Data owned by the municipality, exportable and usable for PCSWMM model calibration.

Getting started with a pilot project

Avizo recommends starting with a targeted pilot project: a typical deployment of five to six sensors takes 10 to 12 weeks. The model can then be extended to lakes and rivers, and integrate additional data such as groundwater, tides, soil saturation or snowmelt.

FAQ: Urban flood forecasting with InteliFlow

How far in advance can an alert be sent?

Users choose an alert window of 24, 48 or 72 hours. The 72-hour horizon is preferred for reliability: the closer the event, the more accurate the forecast.

What equipment needs to be installed?

The platform relies on rain gauges and level or flow sensors installed in the network. A typical pilot uses five to six sensors.

Does InteliFlow work for lakes and rivers?

Yes. Originally designed for urban networks, the model can be adapted to lakes and rivers.

Who owns the collected data?

The data belongs to the municipality. It is exportable and can be used to calibrate hydraulic models such as PCSWMM.
